Julie completed her undergraduate work at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and received both her Masters and Doctorate degrees from Western University of Health Sciences. After spending many years in high school and college running track and then coaching at both levels, Julie enjoys working with athletes to get back to their optimal level.

She has been board certified as a Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy since 2004, an accolade that only the top ~3.5% of Physical Therapists in the country have earned. Julie has also completed the Kaiser year-long Manual Therapy Course. In addition to full time patient care and running her own clinic, Julie is currently part time faculty for the Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in the Kinesiology Department and also acts as a mentor for both our Clinic Director Training program as well as our Orthopedic Residency Program.

Lauren Bastrire, PT, DPT

Lauren was born and raised in Visalia, California. She earned her Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. While attending Cal Poly, Lauren earned her certification in mat and reformer Pilates, which developed into her passion for physical therapy.

In 2013, she received a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine. She is currently pursuing a specialty Orthopedic certification (OCS). Outside of her professional role, Lauren enjoys leading an active lifestyle; she’s an avid dancer and CrossFitter and loves to snow ski and play tennis. She was a member of Cal Poly’s Orchesis Dance Company for four years. Additionally, she loves exploring all that the Central Coast has to offer.

Allie grew up in Morgan Hill, CA and completed her undergraduate degree at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. After working in the field of sports marketing for a number of years, Allie decided to return to school to pursue her passion for physical therapy.

She earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Immediately following graduation, Allie spent two weeks in Rwanda training soccer and basketball coaches in basic injury prevention and rehabilitation. She plans to begin her residency in orthopedics in the near future. Outside of her professional role, Allie enjoys running, hiking and being outdoors. She also enjoys cheering on her favorite sports teams and traveling. Allie is thrilled to be living on the Central Coast again.

Brad is a Cal Poly graduate who earned his Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology and furthered his passion for physical therapy attending Azusa Pacific University in southern California to receive his Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2014.

Brad is a native of Ontario, Canada but has spent the last 15 years in northern California.

Brad enjoyed the central coast so much during his years at Cal Poly, he returned to the central coast with his wife to begin his career at San Luis Sports Therapy. Other than physical therapy, Brad is an avid cyclist, trail runner and golfer.

Brad is passionate about treating the in an orthopedic setting especially in vestibular rehabilitation treating dizziness and vertigo related conditions.

Matt grew up on the Central Coast, in Santa Barbara. While earning his Bachelors of Science Degree in Athletic Training at Chapman University, he held athletic training internships with various junior colleges, high schools, and the Anaheim Ducks. After graduation, Matt attended California State University Chico and earned his Masters of Arts Degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Athletic Training Education and worked with a variety of the CSUC’s athletic teams.

Matt then returned to Chapman University to teach in their Athletic Training program and worked with several of Chapman’s athletic teams. Matt recently moved back to the Central Coast to teach and work as the head Athletic Trainer at Arroyo Grande High School. Outside of his professional life, Matt enjoys bike riding, playing with his dog, spending time with family and friends, and adventures of all kinds.

Richard received a bachelor of science degree in Physiological Science in 1993 from the University of California at Los Angeles. In 1996, he received a Master of Physical Therapy from the University of Southern California.

He is a board certified orthopedic physical therapy specialist and has published research on patellofemoral knee pain. He has extensive post-graduate training in the field of occupational medicine and has worked with several fortune 500 companies as a certified ergonomist to prevent work injury. In his spare time, Richard enjoys boating, camping, fishing and spending time with his wife, daughter and dog Tucker.

Courtney was born in Ontario, CA then moved to Merced, CA in elementary school where she grew up on her family’s dairy farm. She was active in sports from a young age, and knew she wanted to become a physical therapist after a soccer related injury requiring her to attend PT for rehabilitation.

She pursued those dreams by attending Azusa Pacific University in Southern California for both undergraduate and graduate school, where she gained her Doctorate of Physical Therapy.

Courtney met her husband in physical therapy school, and together they decided to start their lives and careers together on the central coast. In her spare time, Courtney enjoys swimming, hiking, and baking.

Michael has extensive physical therapy experience varying from sports medicine to geriatric orthopedics. He obtained his Masters of Science in physical therapy in 1992 from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri.

In addition to becoming a certified athletic trainer from California State University at Long Beach, Michael completed an 18-month full-time residency in 1997 in Orthopedic Manual Therapy at the Gulf Coast Graduate School. He is a Fellow with the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy and served as membership chairperson from 1997 to 1999. In June of 2002, Michael was granted board certification from the American Physical Therapy Association as an Orthopedic Certified Specialist.

Michael is very active outside of his clinic. He is currently a member of the Sports Medicine Team for the AVP professional volleyball tour, as well as, provides and facilitates Sports Medicine for Morro Bay High School. He is a member of the Morro Bay Rotary Club and serves on the fundraising committee for the Central Coast Golf Classic that raises funds for various local charities and scholarships for local high school youths. In addition, Michael regularly hosts clinics and provides community lectures on such subjects as diabetic peripheral neuropathy, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis and more.

Shiloh Walton, PT, DPT

Shiloh was raised in rural Northeast New Mexico. She developed a passion for health and wellness from an early age, participating in competitive cheerleading, volleyball, and fitness events, as well as exploring the rugged Rocky Mountain terrain of New Mexico and Colorado.

She moved to California to pursue an undergraduate education at Pepperdine University, followed by a doctoral program in physical therapy at University of Southern California. She welcomed the opportunity to join the San Luis Sports Therapy family and to enjoy the Central Coast. She looks forward to building upon her skill set by completing the orthopedic residency program and getting involved in research opportunities in the coming years. Outside the clinic, Shiloh can be found running marathons, hiking, relaxing on the beach (away from the sharks), enjoying a glass of wine, baking, and adding to her shoe collection.

Chris is excited to rejoin the San Luis Sports Therapy team after being away for school and work for the last 10 years. Outside of his professional career, Chris loves fishing, hiking, disc golfing and spending time with his wife and two young children.

Chris was born and raised in Bakersfield, California. While attending Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, Chris started his experience in the field of physical therapy working for San Luis Sports Therapy as a physical therapy aide in 2002. In 2003, he moved back to the Central Valley of California to attend physical therapy school at California State University, Fresno. After earning a Master’s degree in Physical Therapy in 2006, he completed a year-long course in Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy in 2007-8, in Grass Valley, California. He became a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist in 2011, and achieved a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Evidence in Motion Institute of Health Care Professionals in 2012.

Katie is the Certified Athletic Trainer for Morro Bay High School and also works as a PT Aide for the Morro Bay clinic. Katie started her athletic training education at Ohio Northern University in 2000 working with various sports throughout the four years.

She was an athletic training student for Division III Wrestling Championships, as well as the Division III Indoor Track and Field championships. In 2004, Katie went to University of South Carolina to pursue her master’s degree. She worked as a Physician Extender in the USC Sports Medicine Center during the first year and during the second year, was a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer for Women’s Soccer and Softball.

Dave Svetich is the Director of Rehabilitation for San Luis Sports Therapy in the Santa Maria clinics. Dave works with pediatric to geriatric populations, as well as athletes from middle school age to the National Football League.

He applies an eclectic and customer service-oriented approach which draws upon evidence based practice. He began his career as a certified athletic trainer, has applied and continually updated his education, recently graduating with his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Western Health Sciences University. Although Dave has had extensive sports training with wrestling, football, track & field, rugby and martial arts, he takes great pleasure in helping all populations achieve their goals. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, surfing, and doing projects at home. He currently is a shareholder, and has been with San Luis Sports Therapy since 1999.

Michael is the founder and Director of the Hand Therapy Department at San Luis Sports Therapy. The majority of his time is spent not only treating patients, but also as a mentor/ clinical instructor for staff therapists and interns studying for their specialty Board Exams for Hand Therapy.

He regularly attends surgeries to observe the latest and varying techniques used by surgeons today to maintain close and clear communication with the physicians whose patients he treats, in order to maximize his patients’ outcomes. He is also on the clinical development committee of the Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency program at San Luis Sports Therapy. He is a board certified specialist in Hand Therapy, the first and only one between Thousand Oaks and San Francisco with a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree.

Michael graduated pre-med with his B.S. in Biology from Fairfield University and subsequently pursued study in the areas of breast and ovarian cancer research where he was twice awarded Edmundson Fellowships for research at the USC Norris Cancer institute. Desiring to bring his health care experience to a field with greater patient interaction, he entered the USC School of Physical Therapy. There he graduated with the first entry level class offering the Doctor of Physical Therapy degree on the West Coast. Michael’s primary area of study as well as more than 10 years of practice since graduation has been orthopedics and hand rehabilitation including internships at Yale, City of Hope, Orthopedic Hospital of Los Angeles, and private practice at the Ventura Hand Center before coming to San Luis Obispo County in June of 2004. On a personal level, having suffered a broken hand while in PT school, he brings his own experience with surgery and hand therapy to bear in the clinic.

Katie was born and raised here on the Central Coast. She left to pursue academics and athletics at Chico State University. Katie captained the University women’s soccer team as a senior and finished with a B.S. in Exercise Physiology, earning academic honors and scholar athlete awards along the way.

She moved back to the Central Coast where she began working as a PT aide for the company. It didn’t take long for Katie to fall in love with Physical Therapy, finding joy in being involved in each patient’s rehabilitation and healing process. Katie has since learned the ins and outs of the front office, gaining the extensive knowledge needed to manage the clinic. When Katie is not working in the front office in the Orcutt Clinic, she enjoys playing soccer, hiking, camping, and spending time with her family. Katie is as silly as they come and won’t hesitate to bring that silly out in order to make someone smile.

Nicky was born in Orange County and moved to Santa Maria when she was two. While growing up in Santa Maria, she attended Righetti High School, graduating in 2004. She then went on to obtain her Associates Degree from Allan Hancock College.

Nicky joined the San Luis Sports Therapy team in July 2014 and has grown to love what she does. She enjoys meeting new patients and enjoys seeing their hard work, dedication and progress. Nicky’s friendly and positive attitude is contagious as she continually puts smiles on everyone’s faces. In her free time, she loves to draw and paint.


Marlena Cameron, PT, MPT

Marlena was born and raised in Orcutt, CA, and attended St. Joseph High School, before departing to Fresno State for her B.S in Kinesiology with and Exercise Science Option. She played Division 1 soccer at Fresno State and continues to play for fun to this day. Marlena received a Masters in Physical Therapy from Long Beach State, graduating as President of her class.

Fitness has always been an important part of her life; she enjoys soccer, hiking, races/triathlons and even obstacle races. Marlena brings admiration and respect for lifelong movement and healthy activities to her treatment style and endeavors to make physical therapy as exciting and function as possible.

Marlena has been with San Luis Sports Therapy since 2007 as a staff physical therapist. She is committed to continuing her education and increasing her knowledge of orthopedics and manual therapy, so that she is best able to meet the needs of each individual that she treats. She has also expanded her knowledge with treating vestibular abnormalities and prenatal low back pain to improve her scope of practice. Marlena utilizes many different treatment strategies in order to tailor her care to the patient’s needs to return them to function as soon as possible.

Nathan was raised in San Diego California, living in Oceanside most of his life. While at the University of California in Santa Cruz, Nathan completed his degree in Health Science.

Then in 2014, he received a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine. Nathan’s primary interest is orthopedics, but also enjoys other areas of the profession as well. When not at work, Nathan enjoys playing, watching and reading about sports, especially soccer.

Nicholas was born and raised in Lompoc, California and graduated with his Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. During his education there he first discovered his passion for health care through internship and aide experiences in clinical settings including Athletic Training, Physical Therapy, and Occupational Therapy throughout Lompoc, Cambria, and San Luis Obispo.

Inspired by this to pursue his goal of becoming a professional in the rehabilitation setting, he was accepted upon completing his degree at Cal Poly into the graduate program for Health Sciences at the University of St. Augustine; the only program in the country that offers a dual degree in both Physical and Occupational Therapy.

In 2013, he received his Masters in Occupational Therapy (MOT) followed by his Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) in 2015. His comprehensive training in these two programs included both orthopedic and neurologic rehabilitation of the upper extremity for both acute and outpatient settings spanning pediatric to geriatric populations.

Nick’s occupational therapy training included internships at St. Joseph Hospital of Mission Viejo on the Neurologic Acute Rehab and Outpatient Neurologic Program Teams. He also trained at Rady’s Children’s Hospital in San Diego, CA and OT Etc in San Marcos, CA. caring for children with both neuro and orthopedic impairments of the upper extremity. He has since worked as an Occupational Therapist in the San Diego area.

His physical therapy training emphasis during internships was in orthopedics including the University of Chicago Hospital and Cascade Summit Physical Therapy in Washington where he treated a variety of upper quarter diagnoses. While there he trained with the Physical Therapy Association of Washington (PTAW) 2001 Therapist of the Year and former President of the PTAW. Nicholas is the only clinician in hand therapy in the county and one of few in the state of California that has graduate training, degrees, and is licensed in both Physical and Occupational Therapy.

After a 20-year Navy career as an Aviation Physiologist, Bob earned an Associate of Applied Science Degree (Physical Therapy Assistant). Bob is a licensed California Physical Therapy Assistant.

He has worked in private practice outpatient physical therapy clinics and in a hospital in-patient and transition unit. Bob is also a Certified Health Fitness Instructor through the American College of Sports Medicine and a Certified Personal Trainer through the American Council of Exercise. He is qualified in the ACE Trainer Program to help AARP members lead active, healthier lifestyles.

During his 20-year Naval career Bob conducted and supervised research, development, test and evaluation programs involving Aviation Life Support Systems and Aircrew Physiological Performance. He provided technical guidance in support of physical performance, training, conditioning and testing related issues Navy-wide with an emphasis on Wellness, health promotion, injury prevention and safety. He conducted high-risk aviation and survival training for military aircrews as well as hyperbaric (recompression) training. He taught the Navy’s Fitness Coordinator course world wide. As a Navy Test Parachutist, he had over 100 parachute jumps in support of Navy test and evaluation programs. Many of the jumps supported biomedical research projects evaluating human tolerances to parachute opening shock and the aerospace recovery environment.

Bob, his wife Margy, and daughter Megan, settled in Margy’s hometown of Arroyo Grande. He has participated in various run/walk/cycling events, triathlons, and marathons. He still enjoys being active and enjoys cycling, tennis, surfing and kayaking here on the beautiful Central Coast.

Matthew was born and raised in entral Illinois, in a rural farming community an hour south of Chicago. He then left to attend Southern Illinois University’s physical therapy assistant program from 2000 to 2003. After graduating from SIU Matthew moved to Chicago where he worked at Little Company of Mary Hospital for three years before relocating to the beautiful Central Coast of California.

In 2007, Matthew began working for San Luis Sports Therapy starting out our Arroyo Grande office before having the opportunity to transfer and become part of our Orcutt team. Matthew was quick to feel right at home while working and living in Orcutt, as the close knit community reminded him of his mid-west upbringing.

Andrew was raised in Oakhurst, CA at the south gate of Yosemite. While at Fresno State Andrew studied was accepted into the Athletic Training Education Program, where he worked with a variety of teams including football, men’s and women’s basketball, women’s soccer and track and field. Upon graduation and passed the Board of Certification, becoming a Certified Athletic Trainer.

Andrew has also worked at Fresno City College with the football team, soccer teams, and baseball team. Andrew worked at Central High School in Fresno, CA as well for a two years. Andrew enjoys spending time with family and friends, golfing, soccer, football, and the outdoors.

Jason received his bachelor’s in Physical Education with a concentration in Physical Therapy in 1996 from California State University Sacramento. In 2000, he received a Bachelor degree in Physical Therapy from the Hanzehogeschool, Hogeschool van Groningen in the Netherlands.

After fulfilling his clinical affiliations in Texas, Jason worked in Oregon for a short time. He then returned to the California Central Coast; where he was born and raised in Atascadero. He began working for San Luis Sports Therapy and Orthopedic Rehabilitation in 2002. Jason has been the Director of the Paso Robles facility, including Athlon Health and Fitness, since 2003. In the last 6 years he has been directing the facility with his wife, Serena Roda, whom he met in Physical Therapy school. He keeps up with current concepts and evidence-based practices through continuing education focused in orthopedics. Jason completed his Doctorate in Physical Therapy in May 2009 through Western University of Health Sciences, Pomona, CA. Jason enjoys being outdoors, fishing, leisure sporting activities, spending time with his wife and two sons, Jared and Anderson.

Serena DeTienne Roda, PT, DPT graduated from the Hogeschool van Groningen, the Netherlands physiotherapy program focusing on orthopedic manual therapy and progressive therapeutic exercise. She met her husband, Jason A. Roda, PT, DPT, a CA central coast native while attending school in the Netherlands.

Together, Serena and Jason, direct the Paso Robles clinic. She truly enjoys gaining knowledge through continuing education in orthopedic manual therapy, evidence-based practice and women’s health (urinary incontinence, pelvic pain and low back pain with pregnancy). Serena completed her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in May 2009 through Western University of Health Sciences, Pomona, CA. Aside from her profession, she enjoys swimming, leisure outdoor sporting activities, keeping up with her two active boys, Jared and Anderson, and spending time with family and friends.

Suzette was born and raised in Seattle, Washington and educated by Mother Nature on Maui for 5 years before moving to Paso Robles in 1985. Formerly a seamstress of wedding gowns and pizza costumes, Suzette began her venture at San Luis Sports Therapy in 2001.


As Office Manager she has enjoyed watching San Luis Sports Therapy grow.

Other than being the best mother in the world to her two wonderful children, Suzette enjoys the craft of reverse engineering. If she likes something (jewelry, clothing, art, etc.), she will find a way to take it apart and recreate it, perhaps even better than it originally was.


Jennifer Seay PT, DPT, OCS

Jen was born and raised in Southern California. Jen attended UC Davis and received a Bachelors degree in Animal Biology with an emphasis in Exercise Physiology. While attending UC Davis, Jen completed internships in cardiac rehabilitation, outpatient physical therapy and worked as a physical therapy aide in an outpatient clinic.

Jen then returned to So Cal and received her DPT at Chapman University. At Chapman, she gained experience in areas such as inpatient acute care, outpatient neuro and outpatient orthopedics. She also had the opportunity to spend 10 weeks in Costa Rica learning Spanish and working in an outpatient clinic with Costa Rican Physical Therapists. Jen is participating in an orthopedic residency program through SLST in preparation to become a more efficient clinician and become board certified as an orthopedic specialist.

Jeff grew up in a small town in Florida. After graduation he married his high school sweetheart and spent four years serving in the US Army. After his Army enlistment, he and his wife moved to Fresno where he completed his Bachelors Degree. For graduate school, he moved back to Florida and earned his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Florida.

While in graduate school, he worked as an anatomy lab teacher’s assistant. He also gained experience in a variety of settings including both outpatient orthopedics and outpatient neurology. He has future plans to complete an orthopedic residency and then become an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist.

Jeff truly has a passion for physical therapy which stems from being a patient himself after wounds he received while serving in the Army. He enjoys living an active lifestyle with hobbies that include; running, exploring the outdoors, mountain biking, and traveling with his wife. Although far from his family in Florida, he is happy to be close to his wife’s family and living in such an amazing area. He is also expecting his first baby, a boy, in December of 2012.

Mackenzie is happy to have returned to the Central Coast after graduating from Cal Poly in 2007. As a student at APU, she spent three clinical rotations with San Luis Sports Therapy, and is glad to officially be a part of the team.

At APU, Mackenzie gained experience working in inpatient acute care and long-term rehabilitation facilities, as well as with outpatient orthopedic populations. She also enjoyed working in an early intervention pediatric facility with children ages 0-3 years in Orange County. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, family and friends, as well as hiking, going to the beach, baking and scrapbooking.

Kelly was raised in Southern California, living in Glendale most of her life. While at Azusa Pacific University, Kelly completed the athletic training program and became a certified athletic trainer. In 2011, she received a Master of Science Degree for Kinesiology from California State University, Fullerton.

Following graduation, Kelly served as Associate Athletic Trainer for one year before becoming the Head Athletic Trainer and the Rosary Athletic Medicine Program Instructor and Coordinator from 2012-2014. Kelly is extremely passionate about the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries in youth. She also has enjoyed serving as the Athletic Trainer for the Los Angeles Strikers Women’s Soccer team for two summers and hopes to pursue additional professional growth opportunities in various settings during the summer months. Outside of her professional role, Kelly enjoys training for sprint triathlons and half marathons, reading, writing, traveling and outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, and camping.

Colleen completed her undergraduate work at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in Kinesiology and received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Southern California. She is board certified as a Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy, an accolade that only 3.5% of Physical Therapists in the country have earned.

Her post graduate work includes orthopedic and sports specific rehabilitation with Dr. Robert Donatelli. Colleen has also had extensive manual therapy training. Her passion for working with athletes led her towards directing rehabilitation for Olympians, amateur, professional and collegiate athletes.

Colleen serves on our Clinical Development Committee where she actively contributes to the direction of clinical expansion and development for San Luis Sports Therapy and other Movement for Life clinics. Colleen is also involved with the team’s continuing education and Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency programs where her dedication to evidence based practice and orthopedics are strongly utilized. While Colleen is passionate about the athletic population, she also has a strong talent for connecting with all patients and treating a wide variety of physical ailments. Colleen is a sixth generation San Luis Obispo County native and an outdoor enthusiast, which has most recently included learning to snowboard and completing a Tough Mudder.

Michael is the founder and Director of the Hand Therapy Department at San Luis Sports Therapy. The majority of his time is spent not only treating patients, but also as a mentor/ clinical instructor for staff therapists and interns studying for their specialty Board Exams for Hand Therapy.

He regularly attends surgeries to observe the latest and varying techniques used by surgeons today to maintain close and clear communication with the physicians whose patients he treats, in order to maximize his patients’ outcomes. He is also on the clinical development committee of the Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency program at San Luis Sports Therapy. He is a board certified specialist in Hand Therapy, the first and only one between Thousand Oaks and San Francisco with a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree.

Michael graduated pre-med with his B.S. in Biology from Fairfield University and subsequently pursued study in the areas of breast and ovarian cancer research where he was twice awarded Edmundson Fellowships for research at the USC Norris Cancer institute. Desiring to bring his health care experience to a field with greater patient interaction, he entered the USC School of Physical Therapy. There he graduated with the first entry level class offering the Doctor of Physical Therapy degree on the West Coast. Michael’s primary area of study as well as more than 10 years of practice since graduation has been orthopedics and hand rehabilitation including internships at Yale, City of Hope, Orthopedic Hospital of Los Angeles, and private practice at the Ventura Hand Center before coming to San Luis Obispo County in June of 2004. On a personal level, having suffered a broken hand while in PT school, he brings his own experience with surgery and hand therapy to bear in the clinic.

Michelle was born and raised in Santa Maria, CA. She graduated from Allan Hancock College with Associate of Arts in Business Administration and Associates of Science in Marketing and Business Management.

From there she transferred to Chapman University to obtain her Bachelors of Arts in Organizational Leadership in 2011. Michelle was the first person in her family to graduate college and she did so with honors. When Michelle is not working as an Office Assistant in the San Luis Obispo Clinic, she is spending her time crafting, baking, reading, or enjoying the outdoors with her husband, Travis, and their Miniature Schnauzer, Meishka.

Colleen was raised on the Central Coast. In 2007, she received her Bachelors of Science degree in Biological Sciences from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. While obtaining her undergraduate degree, Colleen worked as a Physical Therapy Aide at San Luis Sports Therapy in Morro Bay.

In fall of 2007, she moved to Fresno to pursue a Master of Physical Therapy degree at Fresno State University. Colleen was the president of her physical therapy class for three years, a member of the alumni fundraising committee, and participated in Legislation Day for the American Physical Therapy Association. Colleen received a Masters of Physical Therapy from Fresno State in 2010, graduating as the Valedictorian of her class and also awarded the prestigious Darlene Stewart Award.

Upon graduation, Colleen returned to the Central Coast and to San Luis Sports Therapy, where she completed an extensive eighteen month orthopedic residency program in January 2013. Shortly thereafter, she received her doctorate in physical therapy from the Evidence in Motion Institute of Health Professions. Additionally, she was recently certified as a Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy. Colleen also has experience in the acute care setting rehabilitating patients in the hospital setting. In her spare time, she enjoys playing tennis, drinking skinny vanilla lattes, shopping for sweaters, and traveling the world.

Suzanne Kosinski, DPT

In 2005 Suzanne graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Rhode Island with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science. She then continued her studies at URI, earning her Doctorate of Physical Therapy with the Award for Academic Excellence in 2010.

During graduate school, Suzanne shared her time between volunteer events with the ALS (Lou Gherigs Disease) Association RI Chapter, as well as many other community-based volunteer events such as, “The Power of Play”, an event promoting health fitness and physical activity in children. In November and December of 2009, Suzanne spent time internationally as a graduate physical therapist working with children and adults with disabilities in Guatemala, Central America. While there, she extended the concepts of “The Power of Play” to a non-profit multicultural school, The Life School, in Panajachel.

Following graduation in 2010, Suzanne began her professional career at Olympic Physical Therapy in Wakefield, Rhode Island, where she continued to build her skills in treatment via applied functional science. Suzanne has clinical experience in pediatrics, inpatient care, outpatient care, and acute rehabilitation. She enjoys the diversity of her profession and is thrilled to begin practicing on the West Coast, to add her style of treatment to the already teaming talent pool at San Luis Sports Therapy.

Suzanne is an avid cyclist and runner, who also enjoys rock climbing, hiking, and hunting down banana slugs in Big Sur National Park. Having relocated to SLO in October of 2012, she is thrilled with her first residence outside of Rhode Island, and loves spending her weekends exploring all of the beauty that the Central Coast has to offer.

Brandon graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with his Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology in 2010 and he earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Azusa Pacific University in 2013.

While attending Azusa Pacific, Brandon conducted and published research on the effects of physical activity and education on Body Mass Index and Body Fat Percentage in primarily Hispanic mothers and their children. He has clinical experience working in outpatient orthopedics, acute rehabilitation, and pediatrics. He recently became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.

As a third generation San Luis Obispo County native, Brandon is excited to provide compassionate, individualized, and evidence-based care in his hometown. He enjoys being outdoors, spending time with his family, and anything to do with sports.

Jennifer was born and raised in Michigan and moved to southern California in 2006. At San Diego State University, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology: Pre-Physical Therapy and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Dance. Jennifer moved to Orange County in 2011 and after three years at Chapman University she completed her Doctorate in Physical Therapy.

Jennifer has recently relocated to California’s central coast and is excited to be part of the San Luis Sports Therapy Team. Jennifer has clinical experience in outpatient orthopedics, outpatient and acute rehabilitation for patients with spinal cord injuries, and inpatient rehabilitation. Her goal is to create individualized treatment programs with a caring and compassionate attitude in order to provide a welcoming and positive rehabilitation experience. In the future, Jennifer has aspirations of becoming a board certified specialist in neurology.

In her free time, Jennifer enjoys reading, scrapbooking, dancing and exploring the central coast. She is an avid hockey fan cheering on her hometown Red Wings.

Nicholas was born and raised in Lompoc, California and graduated with his Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. During his education there he first discovered his passion for health care through internship and aide experiences in clinical settings including Athletic Training, Physical Therapy, and Occupational Therapy throughout Lompoc, Cambria, and San Luis Obispo.

Inspired by this to pursue his goal of becoming a professional in the rehabilitation setting, he was accepted upon completing his degree at Cal Poly into the graduate program for Health Sciences at the University of St. Augustine; the only program in the country that offers a dual degree in both Physical and Occupational Therapy.

In 2013, he received his Masters in Occupational Therapy (MOT) followed by his Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) in 2015. His comprehensive training in these two programs included both orthopedic and neurologic rehabilitation of the upper extremity for both acute and outpatient settings spanning pediatric to geriatric populations.

Nick’s occupational therapy training included internships at St. Joseph Hospital of Mission Viejo on the Neurologic Acute Rehab and Outpatient Neurologic Program Teams. He also trained at Rady’s Children’s Hospital in San Diego, CA and OT Etc in San Marcos, CA. caring for children with both neuro and orthopedic impairments of the upper extremity. He has since worked as an Occupational Therapist in the San Diego area.

His physical therapy training emphasis during internships was in orthopedics including the University of Chicago Hospital and Cascade Summit Physical Therapy in Washington where he treated a variety of upper quarter diagnoses. While there he trained with the Physical Therapy Association of Washington (PTAW) 2001 Therapist of the Year and former President of the PTAW. Nicholas is the only clinician in hand therapy in the county and one of few in the state of California that has graduate training, degrees, and is licensed in both Physical and Occupational Therapy.

After a 20-year Navy career as an Aviation Physiologist, Bob earned an Associate of Applied Science Degree (Physical Therapy Assistant). Bob is a licensed California Physical Therapy Assistant.

He has worked in private practice outpatient physical therapy clinics and in a hospital in-patient and transition unit. Bob is also a Certified Health Fitness Instructor through the American College of Sports Medicine and a Certified Personal Trainer through the American Council of Exercise. He is qualified in the ACE Trainer Program to help AARP members lead active, healthier lifestyles.

During his 20-year Naval career Bob conducted and supervised research, development, test and evaluation programs involving Aviation Life Support Systems and Aircrew Physiological Performance. He provided technical guidance in support of physical performance, training, conditioning and testing related issues Navy-wide with an emphasis on Wellness, health promotion, injury prevention and safety. He conducted high-risk aviation and survival training for military aircrews as well as hyperbaric (recompression) training. He taught the Navy’s Fitness Coordinator course world wide. As a Navy Test Parachutist, he had over 100 parachute jumps in support of Navy test and evaluation programs. Many of the jumps supported biomedical research projects evaluating human tolerances to parachute opening shock and the aerospace recovery environment.

Bob, his wife Margy, and daughter Megan, settled in Margy’s hometown of Arroyo Grande. He has participated in various run/walk/cycling events, triathlons, and marathons. He still enjoys being active and enjoys cycling, tennis, surfing and kayaking here on the beautiful Central Coast.

Brennon King, ATC, CES

Brennon is certified as an Athletic Trainer and a Corrective Exercise Specialist. He grew up just north of Seattle, Washington. Brennon developed a love for helping those in need as a high school student by helping physical therapists teach children with brain injuries or developmental issues how to move, walk, speak, and more. He began his college education at Santa Barbara City College, where he also played baseball. Brennon then attended Concordia University, where he completed the Athletic Training program and became a Certified Athletic Trainer.

While at Concordia, he worked in a physical therapy clinic helping to develop rehabilitation programs and progress patients in their programs. Brennon was an athletic training and rehabilitation intern with the Seattle Mariners and an athletic training student worker with the Anaheim Ducks. He completed his clinical rotation with Saddleback College’s football program and while there he discovered his love for teaching younger students as an assistant teacher for a sports medicine class.

Outside of his profession, Brennon plays the drums, guitar, and sings. He also loves to camp, snowboard, participate in high endurance running and cycling, compete in triathlons, and be active outdoors as much as possible.

Bryan knew that he wanted to become a physical therapist since high school. He attended Nazareth College in Rochester, New York; where he received his Bachelors of Science in Health Science and went on to receive his Masters of Science in Physical Therapy. Soon after graduating, he joined San Luis Sports Therapy. Keeping aligned with the goals of the physical therapy profession, Bryan attended Western University of Health Science where he obtained his Doctorate of Physical Therapy.

He is recognized as a Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist by the American Physical Therapy Association. His post-graduate work includes attending courses involving manual therapy, exercise interventions and movement analysis. He also enjoys mentoring physical therapy students and is a Certified Clinical Instructor.

Throughout his career he has developed an interest in all areas of orthopedics, during all stages of life. He has experience treating patients of all levels, from those with a more sedentary lifestyle to intercollegiate athletes. He enjoys the variety that goes along with being in a general orthopedic practice. For each of his patients he develops an individualized treatment plan tailored towards his or her goals and current research. He strives to get his patients back to doing the activities that they love.

In his free time he lives an active lifestyle of running and weight training. He takes pleasure in his life on the Central Coast with his wife and dog.

Jacquelyn Lee, PT, DPT

Jaci grew up in the Bay Area before heading to southern California to attend San Diego State University. While studying kinesiology at SDSU, she began volunteering at a physical therapy clinic, and it was through her experience with volunteering that Jaci found her passion for physical therapy.

After graduating from SDSU, she began her doctorate of physical therapy program at the University of St. Augustine. Jaci became an official DPT in December 2011 and returned to the Bay Area to begin working as a physical therapist in San Jose. She is now living on the Central Coast and is excited to continue her physical therapy career with San Luis Sports Therapy. Outside of her professional role, Jaci enjoys staying active, being outdoors, hiking, snowboarding, and spending time with family, friends, and her adorable dog.

Amy Silveira, MA, ATC

Amy was raised in Bakersfield, California. Amy began her education in Athletic Training at Azusa Pacific University and worked with the baseball, volleyball, track and field, football, and intramural athletics programs; as well as a local high school and physical therapy clinics.

While earning her Masters in Kinesiology – Athletic Training from San Jose State University, Amy was a teaching assistant in the Department of Kinesiology at the university and the Head Athletic Trainer at Los Altos High School. During her stint in the Bay Area, Amy also had the opportunity to work with USA Field Hockey, US Figure Skating, Stanford soccer, multiple marathons, and various other sporting events. Following graduation, Amy moved to the beautiful Central Coast to join the San Luis Sports Therapy staff and work as an athletic trainer in the high school setting – her true passion. In her free time, Amy enjoys hiking, biking, cooking, and spending time with family.

Jason S. Sanders, received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Southern California, and is board certified as a Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy.

His post graduate work includes extensive industrial medicine, orthopedic, and manual therapy training. He has had the pleasure of directing the rehabilitation of Collegiate All-Americans, Olympians, Amateur and Professional athletes. Though, on a daily basis he enjoys assisting in the rehabilitation of individuals from all walks of life.

When he is not working with patients, Jason enjoys spending time with his wife and two young children. He is an avid sports fan, and actively works with local youth through master’s track and field programs.

Director of Hand Therapy
Michael P. Smith, MBA, DPT, CHT

Michael is the founder and Director of the Hand Therapy Department at San Luis Sports Therapy. The majority of his time is spent not only treating patients, but also as a mentor/ clinical instructor for staff therapists and interns studying for their specialty Board Exams for Hand Therapy.

He regularly attends surgeries to observe the latest and varying techniques used by surgeons today to maintain close and clear communication with the physicians whose patients he treats, in order to maximize his patients’ outcomes. He is also on the clinical development committee of the Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency program at San Luis Sports Therapy. He is a board certified specialist in Hand Therapy, the first and only one between Thousand Oaks and San Francisco with a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree.

Michael graduated pre-med with his B.S. in Biology from Fairfield University and subsequently pursued study in the areas of breast and ovarian cancer research where he was twice awarded Edmundson Fellowships for research at the USC Norris Cancer institute. Desiring to bring his health care experience to a field with greater patient interaction, he entered the USC School of Physical Therapy. There he graduated with the first entry level class offering the Doctor of Physical Therapy degree on the West Coast. Michael’s primary area of study as well as more than 10 years of practice since graduation has been orthopedics and hand rehabilitation including internships at Yale, City of Hope, Orthopedic Hospital of Los Angeles, and private practice at the Ventura Hand Center before coming to San Luis Obispo County in June of 2004. On a personal level, having suffered a broken hand while in PT school, he brings his own experience with surgery and hand therapy to bear in the clinic.

Toni Oliver PT, DPT, GCS

Toni completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education from CSUB in 1989. In 1995, she received her degree from Chapman University with a major emphasis in Neurological Rehabilitation and minor in Geriatrics.


Immediately following graduation, Toni began working in the Neurological Rehabilitation setting with a focus on NDT for stroke and TBI populations. After 8 years she joined the SLST team and began her interest in outpatient Orthopedics. Since that time she has focused her continuing education on Orthopedics and has a special interest in Vestibular Rehabilitation. Toni completed her transitional Doctorate Degree in May 2009. She also became a Geriatric Certified Specialist (GCS) and passed her Advanced Vestibular Competency in 2011. Toni enjoys riding mountain bikes and dual sport motorcycles with her husband and friends.

Karma Sage-Johnson, PT, DPT, SCS, NASM-PES

Karma Sage-Johnson received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Slippery Rock University and is a Board Certified Sports Specialist. In addition, she is a Credentialed Performance Enhancement Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine and has completed the Stott Mat Pilates Training.

Karma’s past experiences have emphasized sports and orthopedic rehabilitation of high school, collegiate and professional athletes. Karma’s areas of interest and expertise include lower extremity rehabilitation and mechanics assessment with an emphasis on the knee and foot/ankle complex.

When she is not working, Karma enjoys spending time with her husband and son at the beach and watching football and basketball.

Mike Brinkman, DPT, OCS

Mike Brinkman received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy at the University of the Pacific. Prior to graduate school he received a Bachelors of Science Degree also from the University of the Pacific. He has been working since graduation in primarily outpatient

settings with an emphasis on orthopedics and balance/vestibular issues.

Mike has pursued continuing education in manual techniques for the upper quadrant as well as vestibular rehabilitation and differential diagnosis. He is currently pursuing further education in manual therapy in preparation to become a Certified Orthopedic
Specialist. When he is not working, Mike enjoys spending time with his wife and watching football, baseball, and basketball.

Kallie Slette, PT, DPT

Kallie was raised in Boise, Idaho. She attended the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho, and completed the Sports Science program in 2010. In 2013, she earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York.

Kallie married her high school sweetheart (and a Cal Poly SLO graduate) in 2011, which spurred their move back to the Central Coast. Outside of her professional role, Kallie enjoys hiking, playing with her golden retriever, Siena, travelling, cooking, and enjoying all that this beautiful area has to offer.

Shelby LaMendola, ATC

Shelby LaMendola, ATC was an athletic training intern for three years at UC Davis while completing her BA in Psychology. At UCD, she worked directly with Men’s Tennis, Football, Women’s Soccer and Gymnastics. Upon graduation, she returned to her native Tuolumne County and was an athletic training assistant at Sonora High School. This experience helped her realize that the high school setting was where she wanted her career to be.

Shelby went on to complete a BS in Athletic Training at Fresno State, during which time she had the opportunity to work with each of the Division I teams. Specifically she went with the football team to the Roady’s Humanitarian Bowl, and was with the baseball team in 2008 all the way to the College World Series, and the National Championship. She describes it as "the experience of a lifetime, both personally and professionally."

Time away from athletic training is filled with just about any outdoor activity, especially hiking in the mountains and running at the beach. Shelby also enjoys photography, reading, and cooking.
