Athletic Training

Answering the call for adequate medical care for high school athletes, San Luis Sports Therapy and Orthopedic Rehabilitation is proud to work with our local schools. Our certified athletic trainers provide prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries, in cooperation with team physicians at:

Personal Profile
Stacey Jensen Ritter, MS, ATC is Director of Sports Medicine & Athletic Training Services, overseeing the high school outreach program. After completing her degrees, she served as Associate Director of Athletic Training, and Department of Sports Sciences instructor at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA. She has worked with Olympians, professional athletes and NCAA champions, and has been on several international playing tours with athletic teams. After several years as a university athletic trainer, Stacey moved to the high school setting, and found a true mission in bringing the highest standard of athletic health care to young competitors. Areas of special interest include psychology of injury, the adolescent athlete experience, and substance abuse education. Stacey also finds time to serve on boards and committees that advance and serve the role of high school athletic trainers. Stacey loves to draw, paint and cook. Her husband, Chris, is also an athletic trainer, and they enjoy traveling, hiking, and training for a local race or triathlon from time to time.

Personal Profile
Cesar began his Athletic training education at the University of California, Davis in 2000 working with various Division II sports teams, including the men’s soccer team. He also provided emergency care to intramural club teams, including rugby, lacrosse, and field hockey. In 2006, Cesar attended Shenandoah University in Virginia to pursue his Master’s degree in Athletic Training.During his clinical rotation, Cesar worked at two high schools in Virginia, then with the University of Arizona Wildcats.While at Arizona, Cesar worked with a number of teams, including football and women’s gymnastics. He also had the opportunity to be part of the Justin Boots Sports Medicine team for professional rodeo.

In his free time, Cesar enjoys playing basketball, as well as being back home in California, closer to his family.

Amanda Snyder, ATC learned the majority of her athletic training skills at Azusa Pacific University. There she was able to work with football, women’s soccer, softball, baseball, men’s and women’s tennis and track and field. She was able to attend national championships with both the women’ soccer team and the track and field teams. After being able to complete a clinical rotation at Diamond Bar high school under Stacey Camou, Amanda learned that the high school setting was where she wanted to work.

She continued on to University of La Verne as a graduate assistant and received her secondary teaching credential and is in the process of finishing her master’s of education. She also worked very closely with the women’s soccer team and basketball teams as an athletic trainer.

While not working in the high school Amanda loves being outdoors, hiking, swimming, camping, walking, playing around… you name it! She especially loves the ocean and feels so blessed to be able to live in San Luis Obispo!

Katie is the Certified Athletic Trainer for Morro Bay High School and also works as a PT Aide for the Morro Bay clinic. Katie started her athletic training education at Ohio Northern University in 2000 working with various sports throughout the four years. She was an athletic training student for Division III Wrestling Championships, as well as the Division III Indoor Track and Field championships. In 2004, Katie went to University of South Carolina to pursue her master’s degree. She worked as a Physician Extender in the USC Sports Medicine Center during the first year and during the second year, was a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer for Women’s Soccer and Softball.

Sergio is the Head Athletic Trainer for Nipomo High School and also works at Dr. Fow’s orthopaedic office.Sergio started his career as a physical therapy aide at Rob Rosenberry’s Physical Therapy Clinic where he gained valuable experience with orthopaedic rehabilitation protocols.In 2006, he earned a Bachelor of Science with a concentration in Athletic Training and a minor in Exercise Science from Alfred University. Since graduating, Sergio has interned at St. James Mercy Hospital in Wayland, NY, Corning Hospital, Healthworks Wellness & Fitness Center in Painted Post, NY, St. Bonaventure University, and Alfred State College. In 2006, Sergio returned home to serve as the athletic trainer for Santa Barbara City College and the Santa Barbara City Breakers, a semi-professional basketball team. In 2010, Sergio gradated from Elmira College—Division III—where he was a graduate assistant and an assistant athletic trainer. He worked with women’s soccer, men’s lacrosse, and men’s basketball. Sergio enjoys the outdoors, snowboarding, pottery, cooking, spending time with friends and family, and living an active lifestyle.

Todd Olivera is the Head Athletic Trainer at Paso Robles High School were he also teaches full-time in the Regional Occupational Program (ROP). A position he has served in for seven years. Todd’s background stems from service in the United States Coast Guard as well as from his background as an EMT working for EMS services early in his adult life. Todd enjoys all types of sports. He enjoys fishing, and other outdoor activities. In his free time, he loves to run and exercise. He enjoys relaxing and spending time with family and friends.

Marissa is the Certified Athletic Trainer for San Luis Obispo High School and also works as a PT Aide for the San Luis Obispo clinic. Marissa started her athletic training education at the University of Nebraska Omaha in 2008 working with various Division I, Division II, and high school sports, during which she was an athletic training student for the DI and DII NCAA Wrestling Championships. In addition, Marissa did an internship with a professional arena football team in Stockton, California.

As a former high school athlete and collegiate volleyball player, Marissa has worked along-side and can relate to many different types of athletes. In her spare time Marissa enjoys playing volleyball, relaxing on the beach, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.

Personal Profile
Shelby LaMendola, ATC was an athletic training intern for three years at UC Davis while completing her BA in Psychology. At UCD, she worked directly with Men’s Tennis, Football, Women’s Soccer and Gymnastics. Upon graduation, she returned to her native Tuolumne County and was an athletic training assistant at Sonora High School. This experience helped her realize that the high school setting was where she wanted her career to be.

Shelby went on to complete a BS in Athletic Training at Fresno State, during which time she had the opportunity to work with each of the Division I teams. Specifically she went with the football team to the Roady’s Humanitarian Bowl, and was with the baseball team in 2008 all the way to the College World Series, and the National Championship. She describes it as "the experience of a lifetime, both personally and professionally."

Time away from athletic training is filled with just about any outdoor activity, especially hiking in the mountains and running at the beach. Shelby also enjoys photography, reading, and cooking.
