Our Team

Colleen RussellClinic Director - PT, DPT, OCS

Colleen completed her undergraduate work at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in Kinesiology and received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Southern California. She is board certified as a Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy, an accolade that only 5% of Physical Therapists in the country have earned.

Her post graduate work has focused on orthopedic and sports specific rehabilitation. She has recently become the first and only provider on the central coast with a certification in Personalized Blood Flow Restriction through Owens Recovery Science. Colleen also has extensive training in manual therapy.  This background, and her passion for working with athletes, led her towards directing rehabilitation for Olympians, amateur, professional and collegiate athletes. She has been a volunteer physical therapist with professional rodeo’s Justin Sports Medicine Team and professional volleyball’s AVP and FIVP tours.

Angie DexterFront Office Manager

Angie was born and raised here on the Central Coast. She has been working in the medical field for 8 years, and has been with San Luis Sports Therapy as a front office Manager for 3 years.

She received her Associates Degree from Santa Barbara Business College in 2007. When she is not at work she enjoys spending her time with her family, playing softball, and doing landscape photograph.

Colleen VecchettiPT, MPT, DPT, OCS

Raised on the beautiful Central Coast, Colleen attended California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. In 2007, she received her Bachelors of Science degree in Biological Sciences.

In 2010, Colleen earned a Masters of Physical Therapy from Fresno State University, and was recognized as both class Valedictorian and recipient of the prestigious Darlene Stewart Award for Professional Promise. This award is presented to a graduate student who demonstrates a consistent pattern of leadership and service to the physical therapy profession. 

After graduation, Colleen returned to the Central Coast to practice Physical Therapy, beginning an extensive eighteen-month orthopedic residency program at San Luis Sports Therapy.  Soon after the program’s completion in January 2013, she received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the Evidence in Motion Institute of Health Professions. 

Currently certified as a Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy, Colleen also has extensive training in Vestibular Rehabilitation. She is an ImPACT Trained Physical Therapist specializing in concussion care, with acute care experience rehabilitating patients in the hospital.

In her free time, she loves to travel and spend time with her family. She never turns down a game of tennis.

Andrea RipoylaPT, DPT

Andrea received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) from Regis University in 2016 and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Humboldt State University with her Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology in 2013.

During physical therapy school, Andrea gained clinical experience in outpatient, acute, and neurological rehabilitation care. She spent her free time between academic events raising Canine Companions for Independence (CCI) service dogs with her fellow classmates.

Her post graduate work has focused on evidenced-based neurological and orthopedic specific rehabilitation. She is currently a certified instructor and therapist in Parkinson Wellness Recovery (PWR!) exercises, and teaches a Parkinson’s Disease community exercise course quarterly. She is actively working towards becoming a Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Neurologic Physical Therapy (NCS).

In her spare time she enjoys attending country concerts, hanging out with friends and family, and spending time outdoors with her yellow lab, JJ.

Charlene PowellPT, DPT

Charlene was born and raised in the Central Valley of California. While studying at California State University, Fresno, she found her passion for physical therapy through volunteer work. In 2012, she graduated with a major in Rehabilitation Sciences with an option in Pre-Physical Therapy. She received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in October 2016 from Mount Saint Mary’s University in Los Angeles. Following graduation, Charlene and her husband decided to relocate to the Central Coast to begin the start of her career as a Physical Therapist. In addition to treating orthopedic diagnoses, she has specialized in working with individuals with Parkinson's disease with certifications in Parkinson Wellness Recovery (PWR!) exercises. She hopes to continue to expand her interests and knowledge in orthopedics and Parkinson's disease with further specialties and certifications. In her spare time, Charlene enjoys crafting, being outdoors, and spending time with her husband, step-son, and two dogs.

Jonathan GrisantiPT, DPT, OCS, CSCS

Jonathan received his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Northern Arizona University in 2017. While in school, he became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and worked as a personal trainer. He also volunteered with the pediatric rehabilitation unit at Flagstaff Medical Center. He has experience working in outpatient orthopedics, outpatient neurological rehab, pediatrics, and sub-acute care. He has a particular interest in orthopedics and manual therapy.

During undergraduate studies at The Master’s College, Jonathan studied Kinesiology and Physical Education with an emphasis in Pre-Physical Therapy. He graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2014.

Jonathan first became passionate about physical therapy after injuring his knee in high school basketball and working toward recovery at a local physical therapy clinic. He is dedicated to helping people live life without the burden of pain and physical limitations by using evidence-based practice and compassionate care.

With his free time, Jonathan loves camping, backpacking, playing sports, trying new things, and spending time with his wife, family, and friends.

Katherine SanderPT, DPT, OCS

Katherine grew up in the Bay Area, spending most of her free time playing soccer. While studying Biology and Spanish at the University of California at Santa Barbara, Katherine continued her love for sports and the outdoors by joining her school’s club soccer team and the varsity sailing team. She then continued her journey into Southern California, where she received a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Southern California in 2017. In August 2018, Katherine finished a one-year orthopedic physical therapy residency program at the University of Southern California. Outside of clinic, Katherine enjoys playing soccer, hiking, sailing, and eating pizza!

Jessica ChellsenPT, DPT

Jessica graduated Summa Cum Laude at Westminster College in 2016 with her Bachelors of Science in Neuroscience while playing collegiate volleyball. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at California State University, Fresno in 2019. 

At Fresno State, Jessica conducted research with individuals with Parkinson’s Disease, creating a multimodal intervention program to improve gait while dual tasking. Jessica also designed an 8 week group fall prevention class. While in school, Jessica became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. She has clinical experience in outpatient neurologic rehabilitation, outpatient orthopedics, and acute care. 

Jessica is interested in outpatient orthopedics, outpatient neurologic rehabilitation, and vestibular rehabilitation. Jessica is a San Luis Obispo native, and is looking forward to providing excellent care to her hometown. In her free time Jessica loves to hike, play volleyball, travel, and spend time with her friends and family.

John WehrerPT, DPT, CSCS

John was raised in East Wenatchee, Washington, a small town two and a half hours east of Seattle. A brief road trip and one-stop in San Luis Obispo County inspired John to return to the Central Coast of California upon graduation. 

While obtaining his undergraduate degree, John worked extensively as a personal trainer. He continues to train clients, specializing in the service of endurance athletes. During graduate school, he obtained his Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification, an industry gold-standard. In 2019, he obtained his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Eastern Washington University and has a primary interest in sports and general orthopedic physical therapy. Additionally, John plans to begin an orthopedic residency program to further his knowledge set and better serve his patients. Outside of his professional role, John enjoys competing in endurance sports, photography, travel, and exploring local restaurants.

Julie RawlingsPT, NCS

Julie grew up in Durban, South Africa, which is a large city on the southeastern coast of Africa. After studying radiography for 2 years, she transferred to a Physical Therapy program in Cape Town, one of the most beautiful cities in the world, graduating in 2001. Looking for adventure, she left for England to work for the NHS, was able to travel around some of Europe, and experience the English countryside for a couple of years, where she met her husband. Since arriving in the United States, in 2003, Julie has lived and worked in Monterey, CA and moved recently from Redding, California to be closer to family here in San Luis Obispo. Julie has enjoyed working with patients in many phases of their rehabilitation, including acute care, transitional care, and outpatient care. She has a special interest in neurological and vestibular disorders and achieved her Board Certification in Neurologic Physical Therapy in 2015. Outside of her professional role, Julie enjoys walking her dogs on the beach, hiking, reading, volunteering in her kids' schools and trying to attract birds to her yard.
